The Central Jakarta District Court ordered the Grand Indonesia management to pay Rp1 billion in compensation for infringing the Welcoming Monument (Tugu Selamat Datang) trademark. The shopping mall has been using the silhouette of the monument as its logo without permission, hence violating economic rights of the designer of the monument.

The monument, designed by former Jakarta governor Henk Ngantung, is located across Grand Indonesia. The sketch is passed down to four successors, namely Sena Maya Ngantung, Geniati Heneve Ngantoeng, Kamang Solana and Christie Pricilla Ngantung. They filed a complaint against Grand Indonesia in June 2020.

The Welcoming Monument was created to commemorate the 1962 Asian Games. Former President Soekarno hatched the idea in 1959. He then appointed artist Henk Ngantung to design the monument and sculptor Edhie Sunarso to execute the statue.
