Lazy Susan releases online magazine

Indonesian culinary-based platform Lazy Susan launched an online magazine on its third anniversary on 3 October. This move is seen as part of Lazy Susan’s efforts to go along with the current development of the media landscape in the digital realm.

Through the online magazine, Lazy Susan is seeking to connect community, research, culture and creativity through food.

Lazy Susan realised that to date, there is still a lot of information and stories regarding Indonesian food that most people are not aware about. With this in mind, the platform decided to take the initiative to provide an open space that can be accessed by everyone via the online magazine. 

Murdijati Gardjito, an Indonesian culinary expert, once said that we need to enliven the literacy about Indonesian food by creating discourses in this field.

With the theme “State of Travel” for its first issue, Lazy Susan seeks to explore opportunities and problems that arise in the Indonesian tourism sector, one of the country's most important economic drivers. Changes from all sides in the industry have a major impact on the movement of the culinary, food and environmental ecosystems in Indonesia. Lazy Susan hopes that the writings published in the online magazine can initiate further dialogue about the ins and outs of local tourism.

Originally, Lazy Susan was widely known for its physical zines. Its first publication was in the form of a magazine “Suzine” which contains articles about Indonesian cuisine. It has two editions: “Selebrasi” and “Gorengan”.

Lazy Susan’s second zine titled “Asam Garam” talks more about the relations between food and today's climate with “Reseed” as the topic for its first issue.

“Launching an online magazine allows us to distribute information more efficiently. We also want to be a platform for the community to share stories about Indonesian food culture,” said Lazy Susan Designer and Creative Director Alyandra Katya. 

“We look forward to being able to voice all the players in the food supply chain and form a strong community between them and our readers,” she added.
