Apple plans to introduce Apple Car later this year

Apple will introduce its first automotive product known as the Apple Car later this year, according to Hypebeast. In early 2019, Apple released a white paper detailing the company’s approach to automated driving, which is assumed as the basis of the Apple Car project.

Rumours regarding the Apple Car continue to surface online, with the most recent stating that Apple is currently in talks with Toyota on the mass production of the Apple Car.

According to Motor 1, Apple is also focusing on building the required supply chain for the semi-autonomous vehicle. As the Apple Car will be fully electric, Apple also approached battery tech companies, such as South Korea's SK Group and LG Electronics, in August.

However, another source says that Apple is focusing more on its in-house talents, as according to recent reports, the company is seeking to develop its own EV batteries in the US to “radically” reduce the cost of batteries and increase the range of the electric vehicle. MacRumors reported that Apple recently hired two former Mercedes engineers to join the project, which is internally codenamed “Project Titan”.

Apple has been working on and developing the car-related project since 2014. Recent reports say that Apple aims to start the production of the self-branded Apple Car in 2024. It is believed that Apple’s entry to the autonomous vehicle industry will be a game changer, especially for competitors like Tesla.
