TikTok launches music distribution platform SoundOn to help its aspiring musicians monetise music

TikTok recently announced the launch of its new all-in-one music platform, SoundOn. The platform is managed by TikTok’s parent company ByteDance. Creators who aspire to be musicians could market and distribute their work to other music platforms, such as Spotify and Apple Music.

SoundOn also allows artists to upload their music directly to TikTok and begin earning royalties, when their music is used. The creators will receive 100% royalties in the first year. TikTok will start to take a 10% cut starting the second year.

Audience insight and development, expert advice from a dedicated SoundOn artist team, access to TikTok's song tab where music is linked on profile pages, as well as promotional support through creator marketing on the TikTok platform are all part of what's offered to artists.

“New artists and musical creators are a vibrant community within TikTok and SoundOn is designed to support them as they take the first steps in their career. Our SoundOn teams will guide creators on their journey to the big stage and bring the expertise and power of TikTok to life for the artist,” said Global TikTok Head of Music Ole Obermann.

According to TikTok, SoundOn is designed to empower new and undiscovered artists, helping them develop and build their careers. As a music distribution platform, it enables its creators to grow their fan base while harnessing their creative voice and getting their music heard worldwide.

“We're incredibly excited about how this will surface and propel new talent and how SoundOn will contribute to an increasingly diverse and growing global music industry,” Obermann added.
