Indra Lesmana sues record labels over copyright infringement

Indra Lesmana recently filed a lawsuit against two record labels, namely Union Artis and SMD Records. He accused the two labels of copyright infringement. The lawsuit was filed last Wednesday (16 March) in the Central Jakarta Commercial Court.

According to the lawsuit Number 22/Pdt.Sus-HKI/Merek/2022/, Union Artis was accused of violating copyright as it failed to transfer back Indra Lesmana’s economic rights of his music.  The label also decided to transfer the economic rights of the jazz musician to SMD Record unilaterally.

SMD Record is also named as the defendant. The lawsuit also accuses SMD Record of violating copyright as it distributes Indra's music creation without permission.
