Round of Circles: Awang Berhartawan’s solo exhibition in Denmark

Indonesian artist Awang Berhartawan who resides in Denmark is hosting his solo exhibition in Copenhagen. Titled “Round of Circles”, the exhibition showcases 35 abstract geometric artworks. 

The exhibition is held at the Davis Gallery from 12 August to 18 September. Indonesian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Denmark Dewi Savitri Wahab opened the exhibition. She also expressed her appreciation to Awang for helping strengthen the bilateral relations between Indonesia and Denmark, which this year enters its 71st year, through his artworks. During the opening, visitors were able to enjoy Indonesian dance performance and Indonesian food. 

Awang has since 1997 become an important figure who contributes to the enhanced cooperation between Indonesia and Denmark in terms of culture. According to Davis Gallery’s owner Annegrethe Davis, Awang has taken roles as a curator as well as a middleman between Indonesian and Danish artists. Awang plans to facilitate the exchange between five Indonesian artists and five Danish artists in 2022. 

Awang said that this exhibition and all of the artworks featured are inspired by phenomena people encounter these days, including pollution, the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as natural disasters.
