John Legend launches OurSong, NFT platform for musicians and artists
John Legend along with its company Our Happy Company recently launched a new NFT platform called OurSong. Legend also collaborates with the CEO of Taiwanese music service provider KKBOX Chris Lin.
Legend will serve as the company’s chief impact officer, while Lin will serve as the CEO. Twitch co-founder Kevin Lin and venture capitalist Matt Cheng have also been roped in to be part of the project.
“I helped found OurSong because I believe NFTs can change the way creators are discovered, improve how they serve their biggest fans and reshape the industry as a whole. That starts with building a platform that serves all creators, whether they have one hundred fans or one hundred thousand.”
Officially marketed as a “social commerce platform”, OurSong allows users to create NFTs (called “Vibes”) and monetise superfan communities through access to private chat rooms and unreleased music.
Unlike other NFT platforms, on OurSong, users do not need to have external cryptocurrency wallets. Users will purchase digital fan cards and these cards will be stored on the app itself, granting users access to “clubs” based on the privileges of their card.
On the app, users could bid on Vibes directly in US dollar. OurSong will be the one that converts it to ether, simplifying the experience for users who are not familiar with crypto. The app also offers an entire mobile experience for its users where they could create NFTs directly from their phone.
“Our platform is intentionally built to make NFT ownership as approachable as possible, so anyone previously intimidated by the technology can gain access to it,” Lin stated. “We’re hoping to democratise this technology and make it as mainstream as social media, streaming, or any of the other technologies we take for granted today.”
According to Legend, the platform could be a game-changer for artists from various industries who might have put off delving into the NFT craze to date.
“NFTs hold so much promise in ushering in the next generation of singers, songwriters, photographers, artists and more,” said Legend.
