TikTok collaborates with Shopify on in-app shopping feature

TikTok on Tuesday (24 August) announced that it is expanding its partnership with Shopify by launching the trial for in-app shopping feature. In the trial phase, the video-sharing social media allows select Shopify merchants from the US, Canada and the UK to use the new feature to sell their products.

The feature functions as a shopping tab that displays a scrollable list of products users can click through to go to the merchant’s store. Users can make the purchase via Shopify. The select merchants can directly link their TikTok posts to their products.

For the time being, the trial doesn’t seem to be a monetisation option for creators since it requires a TikTok Business account to function. However, the introduction to this feature is considerably milder compared to Instagram and Facebook, for example. TikTok might manage to familiarise the function smoothly to its users.
